Ashley S. Hattle is a certified professional editor with ten years experience in medical, academic, legal, and fiction writing and editing.
I provide life support for writers and authors to help you reach your end goal. Whether you're submitting to a literary agent, medical journal, or self-publishing, I'm your technical partner here to see you through the doubt and come out the other side with a polished manuscript or article.
Your journey with me starts with a complimentary thirty-minute onboarding call to understand your goals and the progress you've already made toward achieving your writing dreams. Your trust is paramount throughout this partnership, and I work to nurture that client-editor relationship through clear goal setting, communication, and deadlines.
Transparency is the key to a strong partnership between an editor and writer. After our call, you'll recieve a detailed quote with the estimated cost of my editing services based on your goals and an estimated completion date. You review my proposal and decide if you're ready to commit to reaching your publishing goals.
Your files are safe and secure with me during and after the editing process. You send me your latest draft through a secure server. I save the original in three places—a hard drive, my computer, and our shared folder—and create a new draft for my edits. While I copyedit or proofread and preserve your unique voice, you can sit back and relax (or chew your fingernails).
My writing career began in 2014 when I landed my first marketing job as a staff writer and flourished from there. I've written thousands of blogs, articles, web pages, press releases, and other content pieces for medical and legal professionals, including plastic surgeons, personal injury lawyers, orthodontists, neurologists, urologists, and ophthalmologists. Nonprofit organizations, pharmaceutical companies, marketing and advertising agencies, and small business owners have hired me to write and edit for them. My textbook on cluster headaches won two awards and is a bestseller in its genre, and I have published works in Nature, Invisible Project, Spill the Ink, and PAN-O-PLY magazines. My fiction work includes a supernatural thriller, A Haunting Between Worlds, and published poems and short stories in literary journals, with two more fiction books coming up the pike.
The editors I've had the pleasure of working with have shown me how valuable and critical they are in helping writers fine-tune their skills without losing their voice. I fell in love with editing in 2024 when revising A Haunting Between Worlds and working as a senior editor in insurance news. I'm the primary editor and cover designer for a literary anthology through the Friends of the Library in Niles, Michigan and currently completing the rigorous Editing Certificate program at the University of Chicago, with straight A's.
My long history in the writing realm and editing credentials mean I have the technical knowledge, creativity, and restraint required to be an excellent editor. I will never edit out an author's voice or rewrite a sentence or paragraph simply because it sounds "off." My clients put their trust in me to strengthen their work, not make it my own, and that is what makes an editor.
I am an active member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) and the Professional Editors Network (PEN).
